FCCA juried show
DATE: 05/30/2008 15:33:08 / MOOD: happy

I just received an acceptance letter for "Effervescent" into the FCCA show in July. This will be the first time the painting has shown publicly and I am excited to hear people's comments and thoughts at the reception.
I feel that this painting was a real turning point in defining my work in style and technique. There is no doubt in my mind that the creation of this work was a divine catalyst to stretch my gift and my faith.
The exhibit runs June 29 thru July 27 and the opening is Saturday, July 5th 5:00-7:30pm...please come by if you are in the Fredericksburg area.

Ovis Nectarus: today's work

First applications of paint....coming along great. This is an exciting and trepidatious time in a new work...The moment when those eyes start to look back at me is a turning point when what has been a vision in my mind for so long becomes a reality. Very cool. This is why I paint.
Tomorrow, I am off to Norfolk to see family, so I won't be back on it until Monday.

I finished the background for "Ovis Nectarus" this week. After a few days for the paint to set up I think I am ready to start. I am in love with the idea of narrative, though I am not sure I am so good at it.....I have a few sentences for "The Age...." painting and a string of words for this one.
I have this little painting hanging around with a question mark......If anyone has any interesting suggestions to finish it up, send me an email......I am looking for the pairing of unique elements, not whimsy..not like "a bird in a sweater, or with a clowns hat on"....know what I mean?

From Brainworks 4/14.....

My traps are killing me today.....sometimes a combination of intense painting and training my shoulders too hard causes trouble......in trouble today, so no painting. I suppose sitting at the computer does not help either...
Stepping back from the new painting I just finished is like taking a deep breath. There is a recovery time for sure. But I have two new ideas and have started hunting for images. Though impractical I love to work on these large 30 x 40 canvases. The smaller ones seem so confining. Once you experience the freedom of such a big space to paint on it is hard to go back.
I watched (or mostly listened to) the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy last week while painting. I find the movies to be an endless source of visually stunning inspiration. I haven't looked into what some of the actors are doing these days in quite awhile, but I found a link to Hamilton-Selway Gallery in Hollywood for an exhibit of beautiful photographs taken by Dominic Monaghan. So, have a look...more than an actor. Oh, and then there is Beecake....
