Join The Critique Group!
DATE: 06/09/2008 14:48:49 / MOOD: happy
Hey, I have been visiting the Critiques group. I think artscuttlebutt in general could be a perfect forum to help artists with worldwide critiques. Unfortunately very few of the members of the group participate. I recommend that everyone join and take a few minutes to crituque each others' work. It can only help all of us grow. Go ahead, it won't take too much time! Click the link below!

Polls!
DATE: 06/01/2008 16:36:03 / MOOD: happy
I have really been enjoying the polls that I put up on this site. I have been finding the results motivational and inspirational. I know that they are very bias and unscientific, but the results are interesting! Check out the polls that people are leaving, and answer them, or at least answer my polls...

Texture
DATE: 05/26/2008 18:37:26 / MOOD: full of life
I have been asked a few times about my paint and texture. I thought this would be a good topic for a blog so here goes...
Well texture... it is added throughout the creation of the piece. While I am working on one piece, I will usually have two or three other canvases out, and I just add color to them, often completely randomly or without any apparent reason. I do this to add color and texture. That way, once i get an idea or direction, I already have colors and textures to work with (or against).
I use all kinds of acrylic paints, ranging from "artist" acrylics to cheap craft acrylic, to even house paint. Anything acrylic that gives me color and covers canvas. Most of the "drip" effects are house paint, and sometimes watered down artist acrylic. As I work on a piece, I will intentionally drip over parts that could be almost finished, and often unintentionally drip as well. This allows me to revise and rethink.
So the layers and texture are added from the first brushstroke up to the last drip there are dozens of layers of colors on top of each other. I even often will paint something the wrong color on purpose so that I get another layer, and get the under color peeking through the "correct" color.
I hope this helps,
Parker

DATE: 05/20/2008 14:39:25 / MOOD: full of life
I am just starting to use artscuttlebutt. It seems to me that it could be a tool for exposure and networking. If anyone would like to share successes with using this site, I am interested. Thanks!
