sagworks blog - October 2008 update
DATE: 10/12/2008 21:18:51 / MOOD: other

--News—
It has been a busy month. I enjoyed my recent exhibitions. It has been nice to show such a large range of pieces. Both shows went quite well and I thank everyone who came on out.  I also had the chance to give my first formal presentation. It was great to see my little postcard sized pieces at more than 20' tall on the screen. At least 75 people showed up to hear me talk about my work.

There has been a lot of "busy work" this month. I have been applying to more shows and exploring new options and opportunities. So, I have been spending a lot of time in the studio - but not working on new pieces. Soon I am going to be starting a larger piece--actually the largest I have made to date--and have been getting things in order to get this started. I have things set up, so I hope to begin soon.

I want to invite everyone to the Greenbelt Art Walk this Thursday, 10/16/08, from 6-9pm. We will be having refreshments and my studio mates Tom Baker and Russ Little and I will be having a community collage project supplies ready for everyone to create their own work of art. The Art Walk includes exhibit receptions, live music, indie film shorts, hands-on-arts, a studio open house and more. It's all happening at the Community Center, New Deal Cafe, and Greenbelt Arts Center. My studio space in the Community Center.

Another event to add to your calendar is Sunday, November 2 from 1-4. I will be leading a community project as part of my studio's Artful Afternoon. We'll be making paper lanterns. Come on by and make one for yourself and another one as part of Greenbelt's "Festival of Lights" tree lighting on Friday December 5th.  The activity is geared to kids of all ages.

August/September 2008 update
DATE: 08/21/2008 11:24:15 / MOOD: happy

Sorry for not sending out an update in a more timely manner. I was waiting to get some information on my upcoming shows.

--News—
The past 1.5 months have been quite busy. I was finishing up a big commission and started what I am calling frame-a-palooza! I have two shows coming up and am trying to show a lot of pieces which have never been out of my studio. This means there is a lot to be framed.

For my show opening in 2 weeks at the Arlington Central Library I am showing 48 pieces from the one-a-(week)day series, 36 of these needed to be framed. That took me about 1.5 weeks, but I got them all framed and ready to go. I am really happy with how this show is shaping up. The show runs from 09.01.08 - 09.30.08 with a reception on Tuesday September 9 @ 7pm. I hope everyone can make it out.

The week after that I have my second September show opening in Brooklandville, MD at the Ward Center for the Arts at the St. Paul's School. This show will show works from the past and up to a piece finished last week - pieces both big and small. I am starting to get newer works I'll be displaying in this show into frames. This show runs from 09/08/08 - 10/10/08 with an artist lecture and reception on Tuesday October 7 @7:30.

Another event on the calendar will be the Art Trunk show at DEKKA (1338 U Street, NW, 2nd floor) on Saturday August 6 from 3-7pm. I will be there along with most of the other DEKKA artists. We are all bringing some additional pieces and will be there to chat.

I did receive wonderful news this past week. I had an art show proposal accepted and was offered the opportunity to take over a new gallery. I will give out more details as I get them, but I now have this big show coming in March of next year.

I finished the commissions on my plate. This took up a lot of time and I hope to get to show off one of them next month after it gets presented to its recipient. I am really proud of the final product.

sagworks blog - July 2008 update
DATE: 07/05/2008 20:53:45 / MOOD: full of life

I want to say welcome to all the new members of the mailing list. A lot of people signed my book at Artomatic. Thanks to all of you.

I know it is a bit short notice, but my studio will be part of an open house tomorrow as part of Greenbelt Community Center's Artful Afternoon. The event runs from 1-5 and has activities for kids of all ages - including henna tattoos, making wire mobiles, and a performance of "Mutts Gone Nuts" show which include trained dogs as part of the show. More Information

--News—
Artomatic was personally a huge success for me. I did sell quite a few works but, more importantly, I got to share my artwork with a huge audience. I received so many positive comments from other artists and art lovers alike. I gave a lot of my time to Artomatic (volunteering) and it was worth every second.

One souvenir I got, partly in thanks to Artomatic, is my first tattoo. This is something I have wanted for some time and after participating this year I knew the timing could not be better. I got one my knives tattooed on my back. (pictures)

Also, I have recently signed on to showcase some work at DEKKA on U Street in downtown DC. DEKKA is a boutique gallery right off the U Street-Cardozo Metro station which showcases local fashion designers, jewelry designers, musicians, and artists. There are a lot of wonderful works there from many talented area artisans. I have not moved in any of my work yet - but I am hoping to do so sometime this month.

I am also talking to a local writer about collaborating in a very interesting project. The project may include a stop motion video of me creating a work. This is something I have been wanting to do for a while, but never looked into.

April Catch up
DATE: 05/21/2008 20:53:35 / MOOD: other

Things are busy, but the good kind of busy. A lot of stuff is happening! I am happy to announce I have redone my website, sagworks 4.0 is alive! Let me know what you think of the redesign.

--News—
Artomatic is going very well. I have received a lot of great feedback and meet a lot of wonderful people. I have sold several pieces and got the chance to meet several people who have believed in me and my art for several years and saw the great art they are making themselves.

On Friday May 16 Artomatic is hosting a meet the artist night from 7-10pm. It is a great chance to see some art and talk art with artists. I will be there the whole time, so if you come please stop by and say hello. The exhibit is worth checking out. Artists have overtaken 9 floors of a newly built office building in downtown DC one block from the Red Line New York Ave/Gallaudet metro stop. There is a lot of great art, music, film on display. --More Information on the event--

The summer issue of Artful Blogging Magazine is out. I have several pieces of art featured and the article turned out better than I could have imagined. It is a great magazine with articles from quite a few creative bloggers; a recommended read. --More information --

The Hyattsville Arts Festival was a great success. 100's of people who had never heard of me now know who I am. I was also interviewed by Brazilian TV. My video is on You Tube if you are interested. You can start at minute 3:40 if you want to skip to my art. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPiFL0HwGgg

I did not create a lot of artworks this month. I spent a large amount of time framing and getting ready for the Hyattsville Arts Festival and Artomatic. I even cut my own lettering for my display at Artomatic - if you can't make the show but are interested in my setup - check it out.

May 22 is the Greenbelt Art Walk - which includes a studio open house. Three venues, one inspired evening! Art show receptions, live music,
independent film shorts, life drawing, studio open house and more.
Sponsored by the Greenbelt Recreation Department, Greenbelt Arts Center
and Friends of the New Deal Café Arts. Informational pdf
