No those that you asked about are older.... and people want more just like that one , I think its called "morning pastures"... if all they want is that fuzzy /warm / muted colors... I'll be more than happy to pop that out lol...

 

its been pretty "green" around here till recently.. I think we had 2 weeks of fall color... this wkend w/the drop in temp/rain/wind.. I think most of it has been blown away.. now its juat all shades of gray w/a hint of green.  Ga is the green state... 

I see all these other artist that paint wonderful landscapes of surrounding areas.... but when I do out my door or down the road.. its all green... so I paint in shades of green *sigh lol

Thanks for taking a look at my gallery and for your kind words! I think you are off to a great start with your representational art!


To answer your questions I use a combination of bristle brushes, langnickel mongoose sables and palette knife, depending on what I'm going for. When plein air painting I will usually do a wash of the basic color harmony thinned down with mineral spirits to a more soupy mix; this is done with a large bristle. I may stick with the bristle for the larger shapes. When I change to the more exact shapes I usually change to the sables which are Langnickel mongoose sable flats. These brushes can lose hairs but they are wonderful for this kind of painting.


 As for edges I achieve these in a variety of ways. If I want a very sharp edge I will use the knife. I load it with paint and then place the edge of the knife where I want the sharp edge and then gently pull away from that edge. It leaves a nice thick, yet crisp edge. Other times I use the knife to gently mess up a perfect edge to give it variety. Another thing I do is place just the tip of my mongoose flat on a wet edge and pull away from it. This produces and interesting look also. And of course I may gently go back and forth between an edge to blur it. The best advice I can give is to experiment, study the masters, and make sure you squint when you paint so you can see where the edges are blending. Good luck!

HI Karen,


I love your visual journey. Your work is really lovely, I feel like I have been to these places from your depictions. You asked about the effect I am using in my work. One friend called it "paper mosaic." I use torn paper. Really no more complex than that. I have always loved beautiful papers and finally decided to do something with them beside admire them.


Lightning ate my computer a few weeks ago, I only lost the last few months of photos, but that included the latest artwork. I will do some photographing and post some more soon. I will continue to visit your site and keep up with what you are doing, it is great!
