I'm just back from 3 weeks at an artists residency in Farrera, Spain at the Centre d"Arte i Natura. It's a wonderful place with a large shared studio and lots of space. There are NO DISTRACTIONS. The vistas are incredible and the people are wonderful. I got lots of work done while I was there. I would go again in a second. For more info look at my vox blog: http:www.elizabethmyers.vox.com

Sagebrush Vistas

Just back from two weeks @ 7000 feet in Taos, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Visiting friends, family, galleries and my own personal piece of sage brush. Hard to get work done this time due to events, but so good to be there in the high dry air, surrounded by the creativity that abounds there.

Here I am plein-air painting in Carson... the painting wasn't much to speak of, but it was wonderful to be there.

Dreamweaver Daze
DATE: 03/10/2008 02:12:41 / MOOD: other

It's been an amazing hurtling pace for the past two weeks. We had an opening at the Gallery (http://www.lizamyers.com) of photographs by renowned environmental scientist JP Myers. He is the author of Our Stolen Future, a book on environmental toxins that was written in 1998. It's been translated into 14 languages and published world wide. He is an amazing photographer, and also my brother, although the latter is not his fault.
Presenting his debut opening was quite a thrill in many ways, and very successful at the gallery. Check out http://www.lizamyers.com/JPMyersphotos.php
The day he left I began taking a course in Dreamweaver, since I knew I had to get a grip on my website, and it's too complicated to explain to even the most patient of web guru/geeks.
Needless to say IT HAS BEEN CHALLENGING!!!!
But my introductory Week 1 project is the site at www.petemyers.net. I'm pretty pleased. I've been wanting to undertake this learning process for a while and it's all on the tip of my muse's tongue. But the wear and tear has got me creaking and groaning now.

I'd like to recommend Alyson Stanfield's blog at the above address. She is a fabulous resource for organizational and motivational ideas. I've been reading/listening/paying attention to her for some time now and it has prooved to be very useful.

Commissions
DATE: 02/06/2008 14:01:45 / MOOD: other

It's a slushy day today- I will retreat into a summer canvas- a commission for a Vermont home called Fox Ledge Farm. They've asked me to paint a fox on a ledge. It's nearly done.

Why is there always that hurdle about 2/3 of the way through a painting, especially a commission, where I just want to walk away from it? It takes great fortitude to walk back to the canvas and get back to work.

Keeping the end in sight... Having the confidence that I can get there. It's always a push. It's afun departure from what I'm doing now, to go back to painting a gorgeous furry creature in a landscape.

Ceramic Sculpture: Mud art
DATE: 02/03/2008 12:33:29 / MOOD: other

I thought since I'd said that I have a whole other body of work as a clay sculptor thta I should put some of it up on line.

So here's a shot of a show I was in last year. The five clay and mixed media sculptures are painted with acrylic.  They are Divas, or Venus figurines. I sometimes have called them Madonnas... they are  matriarchs and maidens with grace and song.

Experimenting
DATE: 02/02/2008 17:32:05 / MOOD: other

I've begun a new series of experiments with surfaces with poured color. It's a bit of a departure because I have been  happy with realism for quite a while, but these poured colors are very exciting... there's a vibration and energy to the color.
Heart Nest II is sort of on the way to that. I sponged and poured the background and then painted the nest on top.

The Muse Speaks
DATE: 01/31/2008 10:11:16 / MOOD: full of life

Just trying to figure this out... about to step out into the world and head to the studio. I will be meeting with Cynthia, my friend and motivational partner enroute to the studio. We are meeting once a week to keep ourselves accountable to goals. I always work better with a deadline and so does she.

All in the effort to stay organized.

Figuring out how to use this new website... My on-going blog is visible at http://www.elizabethmyers.vox.com. It's so amazing how we are all connected through the tendrils of cyberspace.

Now how do I add a new post to the blog?

Its so easy to wander around this website. So many good artists, so much good work. So much going on on this sunny day in Vermont... a rare and precious thing unto itself. When the sun is out in the winter here it has a powerful effect on the psyche.

Last weekend I saw my piece in the Copley Society New Members show on Newbury Street in Boston. Hmm... I'm trying to figure out how to add photos to this blog and it isn't working yet.
