before anyone has to ask - here is the explanation:  Marathon was built on the logging industry - in the 1940-50's there was a brothel kept out on Skin Island because it was only accessable by boat - so the 'wives' could not get at the other women... the name stuck - Skin Island.  Its in the middle of the most beautiful view of the Harbor down by the Mill in town.
