Yes, they are gouache watercolors and the backgrounds are all India inks applied before doing the watercolors. So once committed no turning back. The ones that have the green backgrounds are Dr. Martin's colored india inks and I mixed the bright green and black until I got the colors I wanted.

Thank you for your comments on my paintings.  I am quite intrested in yours.  Are they watercolors?  And how do you get the black backgrounds?
