This is my favorite. Love the colors, shapes and the dark dark that gives it such depth. Wonderful. Betty

I like this one too and the other abstracts.  I like it when art happens by accident (re: the apples), sometimes they are my best pieces, I think its a tapping into the subconscious that occurs, which brings great results.  I thought the white in the apples was canvas, I was just playing with the opposite end of my brush on a  landscape I started the other night, beautiful reds from the underpainting are showing through in really great scratched lines.  Hopefully when its finished it will be a keeper and I'll post it.

Thanks for the compliments Sandy! I noticed that the colors in these two pieces appear in a lot of your artwork. No wonder you like them! I do mostly abstract/non representational so I get most of my positive feedback on those. I like them because they can appeal to anyone. There's no message or story - just color and form. Who can't appreciate that, right? Like you though I do both. I started doing art again (thanks to my wife) after a 20 year hiatus about 5 years ago and that is when I started doing abstracts. They are definitely harder than doing traditional work but to me they are more rewarding since you're basically starting with nothing and creating something. On the flip side...they can be VERY, VERY frustrating for me as well because it's rare that what I have in my head comes out the way I want it to on the canvas. The ones you commented on are some of the few that are the original work. They happened quickly and without changes. Most of the others I have painted over, and over, and over until something makes sense. My current piece is traditional...a painting of Fenway Park. Doing both types of styles keeps it interesting and fun.

 Happy Holidays and happy creating!

I LOVE this piece!!!  Do you find people respond more or less to your abstracts?  I love to paint  abstracts, but most people I know, love the traditional style of painting, so I do both.  Although, some days after having been painting abstractly I find that I like to go to something more represational, it's almost like a rest...to do a good or even GREAT abstract, takes a different part of your painting brain!  Best, Sandy
