Karen, I agree with you on all your premises. Still, Ebay is making a lot of money for some people and I want to get in on that. It did offend me to sell three paintings for pennies. I think I'll change my approach to sell my work under my name with my usual prices. This has been a great discussion for me.

This is really quite lovely, Alison!  A treat for the eyes with all the gestural texture, light, color and great composition.  Beautiful in all its simplicity and grandeur!

I agree with the fellow on your blog who said your work is much too good to sell for pennies.  Really.

I have hesitated selling my work on Ebay for that very reason. I love the concept of the on-line art gallery via websites, but because I also am an illustrator/designer and make decent money doing it, I balk at selling comparable-quality fine art for a profit of mere pennies on Ebay.  I know the concept of building up a client base and slowly raising your prices, but unless the size of the work is pretty doggon miniscule so that one could dash off a little painting really quickly, I really question the long-term profitability v. time and materials.  Could I be putting that same time/materials into something else that would net me a better income and visibility?  I really don't know, and I've researched and researched for a couple years now.   I may give Ebay a try some day ... who knows?  Never say never!  But for now I just am having a hard time seeing the value of it.
