Hi Kara,

Glad to hear of you interest in this one,  It was a demo for my class and then I went and finished it up.  I usually work on canvas, 140lb watercolor paper if it small but when it gets a bit larger 8 x 20 I go to a 2 ply 100% cotton rag mat, which is like a 300lb watercolor paper.  Works quiet well for what I need to do with it, plus I can sew through it I need to for extra embellishments.
