Thanks! There are a couple of ideas I had while working on this piece. One is that it is an homage to one of my art heroes, Joseph Cornell. The other theme has to do with the human relationship with the "natural" world. The bird is a Carolina Parakeet, the only native parakeet to the continental U.S. and now extinct. They were considered pests by orchard farmers and killed in droves (hence the shooting gallery look of my piece), and unfortunately they had a propensity for flocking around their dead which made them easy targets. A lot of my work is concerned with trying to understand what is "natural" and what is "unnatural" as well as exploring an intersection of science, faith, and mysticism.
