Red Willows

Red Willows is a photo intaglio-type print. It is from a photo I took in a local canyon last Spring. I was enthralled with the snow leaving and the patterns and colors of the red willows. I took the digital image into photoshop and manipulated it further using the highlight/shadow option. It was of course a grayscale image. I then output it to film using my Epson 1280 inkjet printer. I use Azon 787N clear film. This film positive was then used in the studio where I exposed it to an ImagOn copper plate using a 1000 watt metal halide exposure unit. The exposure was for approximately 45 seconds. It was next developed in a weak developer of washing soda for 10 minutes. After rinsing the developer off with water, the plate was sprayed with vinegar and then dried with a hair dryer. It was then inked with Graphic Chemical Renaissance Black ink and printed through the etching press on Hannemuhle copper plate paper at 800 lbs. of pressure. The prints are then dried for 3-4 days before I hand color each print with watercolor making each print unique and different.

I hope this isn't too much information. I have a tendency to expound sometimes. In looking at your gallery, you could easily become a printmaker!

How did you do this?  It really looks like a photograph.  I think it's my favorite piece of yours, though the red triangle is right up there as well.

Sorry for all the questions.
