To get me focused I do a watercolor sketch before begining the oil painting.
"Making Color Sing" by Jeanne Dobie, AWS is a great book.

With so much snow where do you put it. Having a mile long driveway all up hill makes for some heavy plowing. Good thing we have that hugh old army truck with plow. The areas North of us got 30" in 24 hours. Missed out on that one. Back to painting

let it snow
DATE: 01/28/2008 13:00:16 / MOOD: happy
Winter is back with a vengence. Woke up and it was a whiteout. Good thing we don't have to go anywhere today. Soon to come photos, once I figure out how to put them in the blog. Snow scenes are tricky to paint without them looking too blue and fake, fake, fake. Everything is cool or cold or frostbiten. But, oh so beautiful. I was walking in the forest and with the snow stuck to every surface, I turned around to face the side of the trees that the snow blew into. From that angle the whole scene is white. What a neat scene to be wrapped in.

Spring-like, almost?
DATE: 01/27/2008 14:45:34 / MOOD: other
Gee, it is almost Spring feeling today. The temp is 36F. The wind has picked up though this afternoon and that wind chill is another matter. Finally got my studio set up how I want it. Thanks to my husband that is great with building things. He just finished a BIG easel and BIG taboret for me. Now I guess I should do some BIG paintings.
