Alaskan Bear fishing

Hello everyone, I finally got back on a piece I had put aside for a while now. I'm doing an Alaskan Brown Bear pulling a salmon out of the river. I started this piece some time back and got sidetracked. It seems like when I start something I really want to do it always gets shelved by something I feel more compelled to do. I don't argue with it, I just roll with the punches. I like to think there are certain things that I have to do because they need to be born. This piece was put on hold for about three years and the other day I finally got back to it. All I had created before last week was the river bank. I have a weeks worth of work now in the bear. I figured I might as well document the progress of this piece and maybe it would keep me a bit more focused on the completion. So, please take a look at the sculpture and feel free to comment. If you have any suggestions along the way please feel free to say so.

02/01/2008 15:01:38 I finished the clay today. I went back and put a little bit different texture on for the fur. It's a bit of a new technique but I really am happy with it and I can see myself using it on more of my pieces. I guess that's how we grow as artists. Let me know what you think of it. 01/30/2008 16:14:30 Today I detailed one of the paws and added some texture to the body. I will have to wait till the clay is a bit drier and go back over it with a sponge to remove the little clay balls. I also detailed the salmon a bit more today. I'm hoping to have the clay finished by Friday and go to mold next week. Here are a few more progress shots, I hope you enjoy.

01/30/2008 13:58:37 Yesterday was spent trying to detail the mouth with tongue and teeth and giving the salmon a bit more definition. Today I will spend on some of the paws and claws as well as some more detailing of the salmon. Here is yesterdays progress.

01/29/2008 13:26:14 Now that I have the piece bulked out I can start detailing it a bit. This is the part of the process that takes the longest but it is also the funnest part. Here I have most of the eyes done and have started on the salmon that will be in his mouth.
