Texture
05/26/2008 18:37:26 / full of life
I have been asked a few times about my paint and texture. I thought this would be a good topic for a blog so here goes...
Well texture... it is added throughout the creation of the piece. While I am working on one piece, I will usually have two or three other canvases out, and I just add color to them, often completely randomly or without any apparent reason. I do this to add color and texture. That way, once i get an idea or direction, I already have colors and textures to work with (or against).
I use all kinds of acrylic paints, ranging from "artist" acrylics to cheap craft acrylic, to even house paint. Anything acrylic that gives me color and covers canvas. Most of the "drip" effects are house paint, and sometimes watered down artist acrylic. As I work on a piece, I will intentionally drip over parts that could be almost finished, and often unintentionally drip as well. This allows me to revise and rethink.
So the layers and texture are added from the first brushstroke up to the last drip there are dozens of layers of colors on top of each other. I even often will paint something the wrong color on purpose so that I get another layer, and get the under color peeking through the "correct" color.
I hope this helps,
Parker
