Where does the time go?

01/17/2008 15:40:05 / happy

I wonder sometimes how anyone gets anything done that is a hobby....

By the time you get up, work out (if you work out), go to work, sit in traffic, take care of kids, cook supper, clean up the house, etc......when do you have time for yourself?

...A normal day for a lot of people.

I don't actually have kids, I STILL CAN'T GET ANYTHING DONE!! You parental units are so amazing and lucky!! You rock! I'm jealous!!

I have been in a very taxing retail management career for a number of
years, and I never had time to do anything, except pick up take-out on
the way home! I gave it up and I'm now doing this. Now, I have a rare window of opportunity to acheive my goals or go get a job!! Talk about stress!...talk about freedom! It's do or do later!!

Ok, now, to be fair, I make progress little by little, but I don't always see a whole lot happening. By the time I've taken care of the house and myself, it's time to cook dinner and spend quality time with my boyfriend. excuses.

So, here's my motivational goal structure, if you will.

Discipline is tough when you have no boundaries.

So, I've started a few routines which are helping me out quite a bit actually.

1) A painting per day. I haven't actually EVER done a drawing or painting in a day since college. So, I'm committed to doing something each day.

2) Making art my business. Go downstairs to my studio in the morning
and WORK!! Taking lunch and the normal coffee break is fine, but paint,
sister, paint like the wind!!
(or whatever you're doing that day).  AND don't forget: Getting my work out there, networking, marketing, and meeting others like me who are chuckling at this post because of the similarities it may bear.

2) Journaling every night, without exception. I can't turn off the light until I've written something. I work on poetry a lot, since I'm also into singing & songwriting.

3) Treating my body well ...that means exercising and eating right. We were feeling soo tired and sluggish all the time, so we made a commitment to the health we deserve. We are thinner every day and are spirits are lifted!

I will chronicle anything helpful that I'm reading or doing along the way.

I just know that if I persist and believe, I will get there...I'm so corny!!!

Have a great day!

PS. This is my first ever blog post. The accountability factor might actually make this thing do-able! (Geez, not just loved ones, but the entire world to keep me in line!!) *sigh*

OH YES!!! Discipline IS tough when you have no boundaries! Well said!

Okay, so I am going to be one of those Painting A Day Painters, too! I hope that you are still doing them! I'm very excited!

It is awesome how similar we think and write. Your blog reads as if I wrote it myself! You wil get there, and it will be so worth it!

Hi Rebecca, Sounds like an excellent plan for success! A professional writer and good friend of mine used to put the phone on voice mail. He told all his clients that he retrieved his messages after 3:00 pm and would get back to them at that time. This way he had no distractions all day long. I'm actually planing on implementing this in my life soon too. Just another thought to mull around.

Have Fun, David

Thanks, I wish I had a sister!!  Are you adopting? :)  I'll do my best for you, sis (and me and my mom too!)

You have an amazing creative energy. I hope you go with your energy flow for awhile and see what happens. You remind me of my favorite sister. Have a blast!
