Finding the groove

05/05/2008 23:05:51 / in love

Everyday I go into the studio thinking I will get to work on something new. But, for some reason I haven't been able to get back into the groove since moving. I think it is because I realize how many paintings I have stored and am reluctant to add more to the stash. If I can't think of a specific purpose for the piece, I don't seem able to start anything new. Here is one I did as a birthday gift for my daughter-in-law. It is a companion piece for one I did in memory of a pet that had died. This little guy is still with her and I figured it best to give it now instead of waiting several years for him to die. It is a miniature 5"X7"

Amy,  Her birthday is in a couple of weeks and I have to finish framing it.  Yuou are right about having too many old paintings.  I am turning them over or cutting them up to re-use the paper.  In fact, this one was done on the reverse of another one.  Today I actually started something new and it felt great.  Libby

Give it to her now.  Hanging on to it is, well, morbid.  And, she would probably dig the surprise.

I find that if a painting is not selling, or sitting around to long, you should either give it away to a friend, or paint over it.  Painting over it gives great texture if you are working in acrylic or oils.  I just said that, and thought you probably paint in watercolors.  Well, another option would be to trade with some friends.  Like have an art swap.  Anyways, having the same paintings staring at you for several years is kind of a downer.  It will feel really good to know that your babies are out their in the world making others happy.
