I Wish You Looked At Me As Much As Your iPhone. Part 2.
Click

The Story: I was standing in line at the grocery store. There was a couple in their early twenties in front of me. The guy was playing with his iPhone. " I wish you looked at me as much as you do that iPhone." She said to him. She was obviously very irritated with him. He did not hear one word she said. She looked away disgusted. Just then I felt mine vibrate in my pocket. Decisions... decisions... I decide to go for it. I pull it out and start responding to the text. "What the hell!" I hear from in front of me. I look up and she is looking right at me. Her boyfriend has now woke up from his phone and realized shes not happy. He puts his away. I finish my text and put mine away. There is this wierd moment when we are all looking at each other and all of a sudden I feel feel like Im pulled right into their quarrel. I kind of half smile and shrug, "technology..." (I couldnt think of anything else to say) "Sucks!" she replied and turned to her boyfriend. I spent the rest of the time pretending to look at stuff in the aisle; magazines, candy, etc... I felt the vibe in my pocket again... I decided to wait... I can answer that later. ... Enjoy!

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the great input and ideas. You raise some interesting points about technology, especially texting and cell phone use. (some mail even lump email and IMing into it as well.) I have met many people who have difficutly getting past the technological barrier and then are not able to see the communication aspect. Once you get past that barrier and realize they are all just communication tools that make communicating with friends and family easier. That is really what is about, communication.

You comments on my artwork are very appreciated. You get me and my work. You get what I do. I truly enjoy those small moments through out the day when ordinary things can be so much more if we allow them to be. (A good photographer is thought to be a master of this idea). Anyway, thanks again for you thoughtful input and interest.

Cheers!

I am almost jealous of the person that got this piece. I've thought about this art a lot. It stand for a moment in time. Years from now people will talk of this thing called an iphone and how it was this or that. The story... the reality of it in today's world was absolute. I'm glad you sold it. I find all your art so interesting and you seem to push it out so effortlessly... but this was one I wish I had bid one over on.

Keemo,
THAT'S hysterical... and so true. I have minimal minutes on my phone, but unlimited text and pictures. It's incredible how many private conversations we have going through our text messages. So personal, meaningful and deep and yet to the outside world it's all 'normal.'

People get irritated because they don't like (or more commonly) understand the technology, but I think it breaks down to something so much more basic. WE ALL WANT TO GET SOME.... and as long as we're getting some then we don't mind or care if someone else is too. When someone gets a text but you don't, you feel left out... yet if you're getting the text and someone else isn't.... then it's all good cos you're in.

I'm with verizon... I'd LOVE to get an iphone..... but I'm waiting. (not sure for what!) Have a great day. That's a fantastic piece.
