Trying new things!

06/06/2008 19:34:50 / happy

I mostly paint in a "painterly" impressionistic way. I can paint super realistically, but I just don't dig it. So today, in line with my upcoming canine art show.. I decided to play around with Expressionism. (I hate labels..) So I decided to create an almost ABSTRACT piece. Its a real WORK IN PROGRESS, but it helped me get out of my own way so it was a fun exercise.

I have never painted this way before so this was very NEW to me.

Experimentation is scary but good for the soul.

Chris and KK,

Thanks for the comments. I like it too. Its not my usual style but I think its because I had a story about it in my head as I painted it. Wanna hear it?

Big, very old Yellow Lab. Very faithful and devoted to his human. On his nightly walk, he sits at the curb as instructed, but is distracted by something.. You see, he is almost blind. But it does not take away a thing from him, he is just all the more loyal and protective. Such a good boy.

I like it a lot.  I cant even tell you why i like it---I don't work this way as a rule either but its a good exercise- I like the way it turned out. How do you feel about it?

I think it's great.  Wonderful that you experimented and had fun with it.  To me nothing is better than stepping outside of your comfort zone...it's one of the best ways I've found to grow.
