Why Buy art?

I have been thinking about what motivates one to buy art. It occurred to me that there are three basic reasons: #1 To decorate the walls , #2 To collect, #3 Investment.
Decorating the walls: This is the basic level...and at this one the goal is to match the sofa...decorators rule on this. Collecting: This is the deeper level..a person wants art because it touches his soul...the piece speaks to him and brings him pleasure. Investment: Some people collect art for the potential financial gain....it doesn't matter the subject , etc. Sometimes these reasons overflap. I think that purchasing because the art connects to the buyer is the most important reason and the most important and lasting one...
