Foolin' around with green

07/29/2008 05:48:34 / happy

Does anyone else get tired of the color green in landscapes? Out of boredom with the various shades of green, I started using a lush variety of purples, blues, reds and oranges. This was my break-through painting.

As much as I love the lush greenscaping here in Florida, it's nice to see a landscape painting break from the usual color scheme. I did the same thing in an "untitled" landscape in my gallery - it's mostly blues, purples, and yellows, yet even those colors can look just as lush as real life. You proved it as well in your painting above.

As much as I appreciate your painting/color skills I am blown away every time I see one of your paintings mostly because of your execution with those palette knives.

Break through is right.  FANTASTIC!  Love it!  You go girl.

I have never liked all that boring green either.  When I taught workshops, I tried to explain red greens, blue greens, brown greens, purple greens, etc.    You understand it better than I do.     me

Actually, in my landscapes I often drastically reduce the yellow channel (photography). It's amazing how much yellow our eyes tell us is green. Weirder yet, the result looks more natural when printed. But beware the slippery slope; today purple bushes, tomorrow orange skies!
