two cool tips

12/11/2007 05:59:31 / happy

Here are two marketing tips, one is my own and the other was a gift. Here's mine: whenever you sell a painting make a set of matching notecards as a gift. The buyer will proudly send out the cards and announce that they had purchased the painting on the card. Be sure your contact info is on the card. The second tip is this: Download images of your work onto Snapfish.com and create a very professional-looking portfolio for fairly cheap. You can even cut and paste your bio, statement, and a short CV. This can be used for any marketing purpose such as approaching galleries, querying magazines etc.

Anyone else have any good marketing tips?  Alison

The note card idea is excellent, thanks.

Here are some more tips.

Become a  Gawker Artist . . . It doesn't cost anything.  FREE ADVERTISEMENT.  I'm a Gawker artist. I've received many hits on my site already. You need to create images with specific dimensions and submit to the curator to be accepted.

Gawker, daily Manhattan media news and gossip, reports live from the center of the universe. Now, when you view one of the Gawker Media titles, you might see an artist's imagery where usually you see the designs of advertisers. When you spot one of these images, you can click to read about the artist's process and work. Check out our current collection by browsing the list of artists, and consider submitting your art. Participating artists receive a free profile published and a select group have their works rotate across Gawker Media titles. In addition, Gawker Artists offers our readers the opportunity to exhibit artists' works on their own websites by becoming an exhibitor.

2. Within one week of selling a painting, send a handwritten thank-you note. Of course make sure to include your contact information once again.

3. Custom Postage Stamps with your logo, artwork or likeness on them. The pleasant surprise will leave a lasting impression.

Love the idea of the notecards.  I've been including a small gift print but this is even better. Thanks!

Hi Alison!

Thanks for the tips, I noticed that if I do a live demo, I sell twice as much as just being there.  I think people like to see the artist work, and it takes off pressure a bit instead of "hawking them" as they approach and putting on your selling game face.  I also learn alot from thses people, I get suggestions and comments that have led me down paths I would have never gone in the first place, making me a better artist as a rule.  The more we are out there, the better it is!

Cheers

Steve
