What is the Secret?

02/07/2008 19:01:48 / happy

Hello arties,

Help! I keep getting notices of comments or mail or contact from people, but when I go to my sight, I can't find any messages or comments from anybody. Please don't think I am ignoring your messages, I just can't find them!!! Where's the instruction book to this site?

Why didn't anyone tell me how messy it is to work with acrylics? I mixed three colors with a paste additive, and ended up working with my hands! I Left the painting. Look again tomorrow. My best cargo pants got it!

Also washing up. Is there any secret, or technique for cleaning palettes with lots of watercolors and acrylics smeared all over them? I need an Art Slave. I think everyone does.

Husband sleeping in his favorite chair, breathing labored as usual. he may get his Dynavox V soon, which is a small box with a keyboard that speaks the words he types. He has tried it with some softwear I found online, using my laptop. It's great when his friends stop by.

I think I need to read more about acrylics. Making that picture, whether it is finished or not, was a high for me.

Using hand lotion,

Lisabeth

Hi Lisabeth, I always paint mostly with my fingers when I work with acrylics.  And, it is super messy- I guess that is why I love it so. It's like painting when I was 3.  Ya, wear your old clothes.  I have a shirt that has a ton of paint on it and it's getting heavy!  HA!

To find your messages, look in all of your links, like "your account", "your gallery", and "Your messages" in your own page.  Sometimes when I get messages emailed to me, I click on the message and it takes me directly to the message, (sometimes I have to log-in first), if you do not have this happening to you, you may want to contact Carolyn.  She should help you.

Oh, Robert Burridge, (an awesome acrylic painter-see him at RobertBurridge.com) recommends Murphy's Oil soap for acrylics- I soak my brushes and anything else that I want clean and it works wonders. It is very gentle to your hands.  I have even left my brushes for days with acrylic paint that hardened and soaked the brush part only for a couple days and the paint came right off.  Hope this helps!    Deb

Well glad to hear your trying new things! As far as cleaning acrylics up, got to get them while they're wet..lol.  Oils are more forgiving in some respects, but a lot more toxic...

C ya,

Jon

I cut and paste some answers of acrylic stain removers I found online:

Windex is the best stain remover. Along with using nail polish remover and water and hairspray, especially on acrylic paint!

Use "Goof Off". I got it at Tractor Supply Co. for less than $8 (16ozCan). It took all of the paint completely off of my favorite jeans. It takes a little scrubbing but it's definitely worth it.

used hairspray on all the spots and scraped it with scissors. It worked perfectly. Thanks! ^_^

a couple sprays of hairspray dissolved the paint right out and the paint had been in the blouse for close to a month without my knowledge!

I used fresh lemon juice and oxi clean stain remover. I tried the oxi cleaner by itself and it did not work, so there fore I tried the lemon juice because of the acid it contains. It worked fine! This stain has been in my jacket for almost a year!

Original Pinesol does the trick for acrylic paint!

What really works is that citrus degreaser

The rubbing alcohol tip mentioned here is wonderful. I just tried it on a new tshirt and cargo shorts

There you go!!! some cargo pants were already saved!!

Hi again!! I left you a comment about the site in your profile I hope you read that first. Do you really think acrylics are messy? messy is why I dont do oils!!! acrylics are very easy to clean but there are few things you have to know: 1) put old clothes to paint because the stains never go away if they dry! only if you clean them with soap and water inmediately after you stained them. The soap, the stonger the better, the best is powder soap. 2)s friend of mine said to me he removes acrylic stains with the liquid you use to mop the floors I've never done it but maybe you should try it with your pants 3) to clean the palletes is hard job because even though acrylics tend to form  plastic, sometimes you can peel them off but sometimes when it is too thin you cant, so I found disposable plates are the best palletes for me, I dont clean them I just throw them away!! But when I work with palletes I never leave them to dry I just put leave them in a bucket full of water so then it will be easy to clean them and I always brush them to peel the thin layers of dried painting. 4) if you already prepared the color you want but you must stop painting you have to cover it as closely as possible, I sometimes use the food cover plastic (kleenpack) and just cover them, they will last you a fair time to return to paint, if it is a large amount of painting you just put it in a small tupperware trying to leave it with no air as possible. 5) you never leave your brushes with paint, always leave them in water and you can put some fabrics softner to condition them once in a while.  Well this you can resume in "having an art slave is great" ja ja I hope this is useful for you! I hope your husband gets better, keep stong and get even with the acrylics!!!!

I am absolutely no help to you Lis. Never worked with acrylics. Keep experimenting. Best way to learn aside from books and mentors. Rick
