Clean-up day

08/05/2008 22:17:38 / don't know

Hello slices of color,

Today was the day to clean up all the mess made by the last few projects I have worked on. The chair was so bad, it took up my studio, then moved to the living room by the AC, and evenings moved to my TV chair to watch Saving Grace, Closer, etc.

Tomorrow I go to the Gallery to change out some pictures. I really like what is there very much. One of the owners mentioned lowering prices last time I saw her, like from $375 to $299. I don't know what to think. Some of those faces, made of separate petals, took days to finish.

Can I get some feedback? Would you lower prices in hopes of selling? Or stick to what you feel you and your work is worth?

Live in the light,

Lisabeth

PS Thanks for all your comments on my chair. I wish the photo showed it better, but the light was fading.

There is an 8x10 framed color photo that hangs on the wall of my favorite Cuban restaurant that I absolutely love. I noticed it when I first ate there three and a half years ago. Every time I go there I admire it and I would buy it except the price tag says $195.00. Now, I understand even artists need to eat, but, it seems a little steep to me.

I have never been able to understand long time wall hangers. If the artist is so enamored of the work they should hang it on their wall at home and not sell it. If it is for sale and no one is buying then the price is too high or the subject matter doesn't fit the venue, either way if the artist doesn't reduce the price they should probably rotate the display. There is nothing worse than filling wall space with work that's not moving.

This is not to say that price is the only reason work moves, it isn't, but a lot of the other factors require an artist's works be 'out there' to increase exposure and drive up demand. I'd love to be able to sell my work at $1,000.00 a piece, but the truth of the matter is that I am tickled when I sell one at $200.00. Either way I can't live off my art, yet. I swear I will be able to live off my art at sometime; I'm thinking of it in terms of paying it forward
