Anxiously awaiting..

01/28/2008 05:37:54 / full of life

This week I submit work to a regional "works on paper" show, to a local art association winter show, I am submitting work to the Copley Society in Boston and have to hope they like my 4 jpg images enough that they want to see more of my work (I wont hear for about a month) and I am still waiting on a firm commitment for the dates of a small group gallery show (this March) and can't believe the gallery owner still has not gotten back to me on opening and closing show dates! So I sit here waiting, trying not to think about the things I have no control over, but as much as I try this is still one of the hardest things I have to do in this profession, waiting, then letting go knowing I have done all I could do and the rest is out of my hands!

Anyone have any words of wisdom, ways they do the "waiting" thing? For me I will continue to practice patience and hope I get some positive results along with the negative.

R:  One piece of advice that someone gave me was to enter shows in bunches.  You have to make sure the dates do not conflict so that if you get into all of them, you can keep your committment, but the good news is that you are waiting for 5 or 6 replies at one time.  Then if only one accepts, and 5 turn you down, you still have some success and can tell everyone about the acceptance.  No need to mention the turndowns.  The person who told me this said it works for galleries as well.    Good Luck  RW

I've now become a full-time artist myself and I'm now experiencing the 'waiting' game. I normally get a little antsy and impaitient, but I'm learning that I can use my 'wait' time to get other things done that are art related. I keeps my mind off the things I have no control over. Hope this helps.
