JPG's vs. Slides

01/07/2008 06:10:07 / happy

As the new year sets in, and I plan my juried show submissions, I have decided to no longer spend money paying a professional photographer to make color slides of my work but rather will learn how to resize my digitial images to suit the standard 300 dpi request most organizations seem to accept and insist on. Does anyone have a preference? Has the art world officially accepted digital images as the best way to view art? Are colored slides now considered antiquated? Please share all and any thoughts!

I'm with you- I hate slides, but I understand why they prefer them when they have to judge so many and they need to project them up for the judges to view.  Still, there has to be a better way. Someone has to come up with a better way for the jugdes to view them.  How about a projector that projects digital prints?  Probably loses the quality-  that's my opinion-  Deb

Although most of the competitions now a days want jpegs, I still run into some shows that want slides.  It is a pain to get slides taken by professional photographers but I've found this place online that will convert digital jpegs into slides.  Just upload the work to their ftp site and determine the method of shipping and you're done (practically)
