At the Key

01/06/2008 17:43:06 / full of life

I am happily settled in for a month of painting at the beach.  Today I worked on a small still life of three pears that my husband bought.  It was such a beautiful day that I couldn't resist being at the beach and out on the island most of the day.  Normally I take my paints and paint almost every day, but today was different.

I worked with acrylics on board, something I am not as used to painting, but I wanted to try something faster than oils for this little study.  I found the colors had to be toned down and the quick dry times kept me from smoothing and blending as much.  I am sure I will get used to it, but there is just something about oil paints that keeps my interest more.

Will update with photos of new works periodically.  If you have suggestions on using acrylics, give me a comment.

Aloha!

Thanks for the comment, I think I tend to agree.  I know people who paint with acrylics and make them look like oils, but the creaminess and consistency of oil paint is what I love.

No offense to acrylic painters but as an artist having a love affair with oils: Acrylics are dead. They are comprised of a plastic material - no life. Oils breathe; they are alive and transluscent - a finish that cannot be accomplished with the oils.           me
