Looking for the flip side

07/28/2008 19:18:07 / disappointed

I just read the email informing me I made the reserve list for an art show in West Palm Beach I really wanted to make; lots of money and snow birds. This is the second time in a row I've been put on wait and while it's better than pure rejection (per my wife, bless her) it's not acceptance either.

I'm new here as well as in the art scene in general. My first competition and I was awarded an honorable mention. I made the jury cut for a long term exhibition with the local art organization. I was accepted by the first art gallery I applied to and am talking to a corporate sponsor about a revolving exhibition for six months. I know I'm living a golden life, but I guess rejection still hurts.

Maybe it's just the rainy weather coupled with the death of my telephoto lens this week.

OK, I'll stop whining now and thanks for listening.

Cheer up, DS!  Your work is beautiful and you are obviously quite talented.  It's their loss if your work is not accepted (those simpletons!). Creating art is a blast.  The business end of things is quite fun as well, but requires one to grow skin as thick as alligator hide, and to develop tunnel vision focused on your success.  Keep a lot of irons in the fire.  There are so many shows down here it's just crazy.  Bummer about the lens, but now you can research a new one!         -W

Oh my gosh the work "REJECTION"!!!!!!  Is that a powerful word.  I've been struggling with that for my entire life.....Just don't pay attention to it, and just surround yourself by positive people who believe in your work and nothing else.  Surround yourself by beauty, and of course God, and you'll cope with it.  Welcome to the life of an artist.....I wish you the best.

Hey, count your blessings! You're way far ahead of many of us, and you deserve every honor you pull down!

Good luck with the corporate sponsor. Hope your name comes up on the reserve list also. Good things are happening, and the rejection just goes along with the flow. When you don't enter, the rejection rate is 100%.

Keep on keepin on.
