Why Buy art?
DATE: 03/21/2008 20:00:00 / MOOD: other

I have been thinking about what motivates one to buy art. It occurred to me that there are three basic reasons: #1 To decorate the walls , #2 To collect, #3 Investment.

Decorating the walls: This is the basic level...and at this one the goal is to match the sofa...decorators rule on this.

Collecting: This is the deeper level..a person wants art because it touches his soul...the piece speaks to him and brings him pleasure.

Investment: Some people collect art for the potential financial gain....it doesn't matter  the subject , etc.

Sometimes these reasons overflap.

I think that purchasing because the art connects to the buyer is the most important reason and the most important and lasting one...

Painting from Plein Air Studies
DATE: 03/18/2008 16:33:40 / MOOD: full of life

I am primarily a plein air painter, but lately the weather here in the mts hasn't been cooperative...bitter winds, snow, and the snow is so deep your tripod sinks...I am having fun painting from my plein air studies in my cozy studio. The studies are proving to be so valuable even if they weren't up to my standards...I can remember the weather, the colors, etc. from them and they are fun to revisit in order to paint larger studio paintings. I am looking forward to Spring!
