Etsy.com

Etsy.com is a great place to buy and sell handmade items. But where does the artist go who doesn't really fit in there?I have been looking for a good place to go that caters to artists only, not jewelers or crafts people and you can sell your artwork there. I have found no such place. Usually sites where you can show your work, costs money and they take a percentage of your earnings, or you can't sell your work there just show it. I guess that's where having your own website comes in.

Therein lies another problem. If you want a good quality website, one that will grab people's attention, you probably have to hire someone to make it...etc.

So, I am asking anyone who knows of such a place where you can get a good website and not just something from a template, where you can show your work, sell it there and no one charges an arm and a leg for you to have it, or sell it. So far, my only answer is Etsy.com. I am not into Ebay.

Well, that's it for today. Please (at least for now) go to my shop at etsy.com and check out the work that's not shown in my gallery here.

To Blog or Not to Blog
DATE: 03/15/2008 18:18:29 / MOOD: other

Well today is Saturday. I am finding it very difficult to get motivated to work.

A lot of people I have had contact with who sell their art online, have said that blogging has increased their business twofold. I don't get it though. How does it work that people who blog sell more?

If you have an answer to this, please let me know. How has blogging increased your marketability and sales?

Thanks,

Brett

Hello everyone!

I am new to this site, although I did create my account in February. I just recently decided to quit my job due to health reasons and begin
to pursue my artistic career full time;it has been a long time coming.

My blog will be about addressing my creative process and featuring other artists. I have never done this before, so bear with me as I muddle my way through this quite exciting journey with all of you.

I hope that we can all learn together about this aspect of being an artist-marketing ourselves- as I need a lot of help with it. I have been selling my work on Etsy.com since August of last year and have sold quite a few things, to my surprise and excitement. You learn the ropes of a site after trial and error and I am learning now that I need a blog to gain more exposure. A Blog...hmmm...telling people about myself? telling people about my work? sharing about my life? But I'm an introvert. I usually don't have much to say....I am an observer. Well, at my age (51) it's time to shed that coat of armor and move on with it!

So that's about enough for me for now. Please visit my shop at vanfleetstreetdesign.etsy.com for more information about me, and to view more of my work.

Coming up soon...featured artists!
