Away but not AWAY
DATE: 03/08/2010 18:39:39 / MOOD: in love
Hello all you wonderful art people,
I have been away from this site for a while; just filled in the new work and cleaned up the old work.
I have been totally happy, creating collages, teaching pressed flower and pressed seaweed classes, showing my art when I can, chairing an art league show "Wild and Free" (not much of a stretch) having a marvelous creative spurt.
My husband has taken up watercolors, loves it and is really good. He takes classes twice a week, and it has made him a different person. We are much happier together.

Third Day of Christmas
DATE: 12/27/2009 22:16:55 / MOOD: happy
Hey all you color streakers,
My grandchildren and their parents just left. Oscar is three months and Lulu is three years. They came from NJ. What a day! It was Christmas all over again. I must have a short childhood, as I am in theirs with them in a minute. My granddaughter and I get in my canopy bed, pull the curtains and tell secrets and laugh. Presents delight her, and we had plenty. As for Oscar, the happy baby, everything delights him. He smiles until he is hungry, then frets until mommy nurses him. What a life!
I am happy; I am tired. I began a collage while waiting for them to arrive. My first with photos and poems and words. I like it so far.

Wow! Who took the time?
DATE: 12/22/2009 16:16:37 / MOOD: happy
Hello, all you colors,
It feels so great to be writing in this blog again after so much time!
We moved, my studio again is a sunporch, with a spectacular view of the marshes.
I have been working on a commission which I took to UPS on Friday to mail to Brooklyn, a petal portrait of a couple.
I have been teaching workshops, and have three more scheduled. 10 people is my limit, and there is always a waiting list! I was afraid no one would be interested in pressed flower pictures.
Seaweed workshop coming up, as well as a petal portrait and another flowers.
While I teach flowers and seaweed, my work has moved into acrylics almost entirely. The two posted pictures have much shine here, but are really wonderful. Sun Dance came together when my husband was in the hospital two days before Thanksgiving. I saw a piece of red tissue paper on the floor, picked it up, twisted it, and Sun Dance was born. (he is home and fine)
I feel I need to express my inner feelings on canvas, something I couldn't do with flowers or seaweed. I am using paint, paper, thread, all kinds of media to express my self, and it feels good.
To my friends who are reading this, a big hug. I will try to stay current.

Boxes, Boxes
DATE: 10/03/2009 23:10:32 / MOOD: other
Hi all you bundles of talent, I know I have been MIA for a long time, but we moved. It took all of August to pack, and we're still unpacking. I gave a pressed flower workshop at a local Art Center last Sunday. I was afraid no one would sign up, and it was filled to capacity - 10 women. We had so much fun, I haven't laughed so much in years. Beautiful flower pictures were made, and the Art Center asked me to do a "Petal Portrait" workshop in March, which is half full already! Could this be the answer? I have sold a couple of pieces in the Gallery, Colorburst and My Colors, which is great, but hour for hour the workshops pay more! Now if I just could rent my own space, tables and chairs with a bathroom...... Live in the light, Lisabeth

Packing Again
DATE: 07/20/2009 23:00:19 / MOOD: other
Good evening all you talented souls,
I am sorry to say we are moving again! Seems like every two years or so, the boxes arrive, the tag sale is orginized and we move into a totally different place. The house we are in is just too expensive. It is a waterfront, but with electric heat and shaky windows, our winter electric bill is $700 a month.
Our new house is on the marshes with a view of Long Island Sound. I can kayak through the marshes to the open water.
I got a commission for a couple's petal portrait from an online site, and I have pretty much been working on that. Lots of juried shows at the different town's associations coming up, and I am back in the Left Bank Galery.
I want to be freeer in my style Today I washed and dried a piece of canvas. Tomrrow, I wil gesso it and go to work.
We shall see what unfolds.

Is Winter Over?
DATE: 06/21/2009 22:04:57 / MOOD: other
Hello all you gorgeous paint people, It has been months, I know, but I don't do well in the winter, and this one was particularly heavy. Two emergency room entries to Yale Hospital for my husband, who couldn't breathe. I am working on me. I'm back on the road (watch out!) Tomorrow I will take my first water aerobics class, rain or shine. That's what they make baseball caps for! However, hope for sun. I am working with acrylics and flowers and a new freedom is opening up. I can't wait to do more, but I got a commission to do a portrait of a couple through one of the online sites. I have been to SanFrancisco for a week, and just returned from a trip I won at a caregiver's diner to Block Island. I am getting the alone time I longed for. Time for my new early bedtime. Aerobics at 7:00! Live in the light, Lisabeth

Moving on

Good evening all you colorful pictures,
I returned from SanFrancisco, although there were bets against it.
I was asked by the owner to return to the Gallery I was in for a much reduced rate. I agreed, because it helps being out there.
Then, I called a women who had asked me to do a workshop, and she booked me for Sept 27th if anyone is in the area and wants to create with pressed flowers.
I also joined the Art Trail, which also begins in Sept and artists who sign up open their studios for visitors. There is lots of publicity, maps, and road signs pointing to our studios. Should be fun!
I went to a "Chicken Soup for the Caregiver's soul" given by our local VNA. They served us homade chicken soup, bread and dessert, then we all had our choices of a massage, reiki, foot massage, etc. My massage ran late, so I didn't see who won the big prize of the night A Week in A Timeshare on Block Island.
The following day I got a call and YES, I won!!! The first woman drawn said no, so I was the second drawn. Block Island is one of the most wonderful places in the world. Google it if you don't know.
I go from May 16-23rd alone! Time to think, pray, meditate, walk, sit in the sand, collect seaweed and flowers. I can't wait.
That's my good news.

Snowed In
DATE: 03/02/2009 16:09:19 / MOOD: other
Hello colorful art people,
It has been a long time since I've felt like sharing.
My hands and back are so painful, it seems my life is filled with doctors, second opinions, shots, epidurals, etc etc.
The only new work I've done is for class, and not as exciting as the fruit and poppy.
I shouldn't be depressed, as I am going to San Francisco on Monday for a week. My hotel seems surrounded by galleries and small shops . It's in the Union Square district. My husband will stay with his son, his wife and our granddaughter in NJ.
I am bringing some sketch pads and watercolors. I'm sure there will be lots to draw.
I entered my petal portraits in the Contest(so many contests these days!) Give me a vote if you like.

Hi, Hello, Hi!
DATE: 02/20/2009 22:27:36 / MOOD: happy
Hello all you zingy shades,
I have been quiet lately. First, I was sick, then my Bonnard copy for class was a bust, then doctors, doctors, osteoarthritus, shots in my basal joints, my vertebre, my osteoporitus, my diabetes. Soon my husband will be caregiving me!
My best news is that I'm taking a trip to San Francisco March 9th-16th. The first time in five years of caregiving I will be by myself! My husband's son will be careing for him. I found a great hotel on Sutter Street near Union Square, a neighborhood filled with galleries. My cousins live there, a niece, a friend, and my mother's sister, who is close to 80 with emphasima and never goes out. So, if I want company, there is plenty of it.
Mostly, I want to rest, chill, see great things, and return home with a much-needed new view of my life. It is so exciting. I haven't traveled alone since 1994!
You've always had the power,
Lisabeth
