A month off
DATE: 07/13/2008 01:59:10 / MOOD: other

I took one. A month off, a whole month. Why, do you ask?
You've got to have a reason to do something, I think. A well defined reason. And I didn't have one. In the last month, I've found what I want to do, who I want to be as an artist. I've been closely and carefully examining it. I know what I want to do. But...
I can't tell you. This happens in my conversations when I meet new people, they ask, and I answer. But the answer never satisfies. Because the eyes have not been satisfied.
If I told you what I was doing, you would just say, "oh", and you would move on, not because it's not cool or interesting, because it is. You would move on because my sixty second explanation does not encompass the months of work which I put into one piece.
NO my friend, I, am going to make you wait. I'm going to feed you piece by visual piece, so that you understand slowly the overall makeup of the idea. So when one day we meet on the street, you will come up to me and tell me what I am doing. I won't have to tell you, because you will know.
Please enjoy this journey with me.

Lights shining small, warmer
DATE: 03/24/2008 22:11:00 / MOOD: full of life

In the culture we strive in there are blogs, IMs, texts, chats, dating sites, 'e' this, 'e' that, and 'e' etc. These are all strenuous attempts to connect, personally connect. We see this in the way we talk to each other, the way we interact. We all strive to connect. But the lines get fuzzy, and it is hard.

In my life, friendships, and art, it is vitally important to get closer. Closer to the individual,  to the one person, no distractions, no anonymity. Just us, you and me, together, sharing. Fears and frustrations, joys and strength. Apart we are lights shining small, when we come together we are still small, but we see further, and we are warmer.

This is a path, and during the journey, I hope to share the stories of relationships, people, struggles and victories. Each person you meet is not a normal person, they are a shining light, more beautiful than the sun, more important than time. Each portrait I carve from paper and charcoal represents, in such a small way, an individual, with a name, and a story. I invite you to open yourself to them, and to the stories and lives which surround you always.

Thank you,
