My name is Tyler Hennings. I am a husband, father, painter, and professor. My paintings are about the act looking, the process of painting, and the foundations of art. It is my goal to create work from carefully observed reality with an abstract sensibility; to create a dialogue between representation and abstraction, which I do not see as mutually exclusive ways of working. I make forceful, confidant marks that describe my subject, and that also document my emotional and painterly reaction to that subject. I choose subjects that are somewhat banal, but that have a subtle sense of amiable humor and warmth. I like to paint these subjects on a very large scale to give them a sense of grandeur.

I have also started a series of pet portraits and daily paintings.

Really like your animal portraits. Painting wet into wet like that can get muddy so fast but your colors retain that vivid quality. Very nice!

Wonderful stuff!  Painterly,  but with a sense of humor.  Really refreshing!  I love the colors.

Great studies...are you a "painting a day" affectionado? I think I saw another marble on S.Butt, but can't find it now.  They're a great subject for close study.
