I think I was born to be an artist; I have clear memories of drawing since the age of two. After earning my BFA in Studio Art and BA in Art Ed. from Northern Kentucky University in 1993, I had some sucess exhibiting and selling my work for several years. I also completed half a Master's degree at the prestigious Art Academy of Cincinnati.
However, I wasn't able to get a full-time position teaching art, so I had to switch majors to support myself and my children, and had little time to make art. This 'break' in my work was strictly due to financial necessity, among other unpleasant circumstances. It was all worth it, though, because both of my children turned out to be awesome and successful human beings. I consider raising them to be my finest accomplishment.
I finally finished my Master's in Special Ed., and work full time as a teacher. Now attempting to re-enter the art "business" after an absence of about five years or so, I'm very excited but also kind of scared; things have changed considerably in the art world. More than anything, though, I'm happy to be once again doing what I was meant to do.

Lately I'm learning to do lots of things on the computer which I never imagined I would do, but it seems to be a necessity now. Surprisingly, some of it is actually fun!

Thanks for visiting my page.  It's one of my favorites, too, especially since it was created immediately following a trip to the Everglades when at least five separate storms could be seen!  I enjoyed looking at your work and love the way you incorporate bits of nature with the abstract background.  Jo-Ann

I used the reductive method of printing my relief prints.  I print a color, then cut away what I want to stay that color, print, cut, repeating until I'm done.  Usually there is not much left of the block when I'm done.

Coming out from the land of cows and rednecks, I must confess that abstracts aren't usually something I can say "WOW" to  very often...but I like the way you developed your title of painting abstracts...the lighting, the forms, all the different ways you express those elements in each painting...I rate your work a top 10 for abstract work.  No, I'm not an expert, but just take it as a compliment!

thank you for your comments on my work. "chaos of creation" is a digital collage of photographic elements and digital illustration. your work is very beautiful too, and I am particularly attracted to "beneath the surface".
