The art of Kelly Singleton reflects her life-long love for wildlife and wild places. With stunning realism, she strives to accurately portray her subjects and their natural habitats. Whether this versatile artist chooses to use watercolor, oil, pastel, or acrylic, she is able to breathe life into her subjects.

Born in 1971, Kelly was raised in Bel Air, Maryland. From a very young age, she was gifted at art and had a deep love and fascination for animals. Naturally, animals (especially horses) were her favorite art subjects. She knew early on that she wanted to be an artist and she credits her parents for encouraging her desire to pursue art.

Kelly holds a B.F.A. in Illustration from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. She has trained at artist workshops with notable wildlife artists: Robert Bateman, John Banovich, Dan Smith, Matthew Hillier, the late Paco Young, Julie Chapman, and Andrew Denman.

Her work is found in private collections across the United States and has been displayed in numerous regional and national shows. Most notably, the highly competitive Birds in Art exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum and the Society of Animal Artists Art and the Animal exhibition. She holds memberships in the prestigious Society of Animal Artists (SAA), Artists for Conservation (AFC), and the Baltimore Watercolor Society (BWS). The SAA has recognized Kelly’s work for two consecutive years with the Evelyn & Peter Haller Distinguished Young Artist Award in 2006 and the Don Eckelberry Scholarship Award in 2007. Her work has also toured nationally with the SAA.

Kelly and her husband Jimmy live in Havre de Grace, MD near the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay. They share their home with one spoiled Boxer, Max. She finds inspiration for her art through observing animals and nature, as well as time spent traveling, hiking, kayaking, and mountain biking.

Hi Kelly,

I appreciate your nice comments about my "Wild Spring". It was a hoot painting. As you may have noticed I'm a DETAIL NUT!

I find the small things in nature are as interesting and often more fascinating than all of Gods other cool stuff.

Again, I thank you for your comments.

Best to you,

Joe

Thanks for visiting my page and for your kind comments.  Yes, I now paint mostly with pallette knives, especially for landscapes.  It seems easier to get the texture that I want.

I so enjoyed looking at your gallery! Your work is nuanced and beautifully observed. I especially like the bird pieces, I have worked on wild bird rehab, you have caught some great moods there, along with the true appearance of the species. My favorite is the fox in the snowy landscape. Your work gives the viewer a moving emotional experience and a sense of harmony with the natural world.
