I have to say that I love Graphite. I like just about every medium out there, the richness of oils, the delicate look of a pastel, and the clarity of a well done water color. People are always asking if I paint in oil. I have and I will again but the starkness and simple lines that graphite gives just pulls me in. Like a black and white photograph when all the color is removed you get something extra and that extra is what I am trying to capture. I am trying a little more color with color pencils I am not sure if I am happy with them yet.

A good Belgian beer shared with friends. A hug from my children. Fishing on a cool day with my family.

New Jersey drivers. Rude people. People that tease me about my spelling. Bad coffee!

Fishing, Drawing, Reading, making wine and beer, Bicycle riding (I own a bicycle shop).

What size and kind of paper do you work on?  I've always used a hot press plate finish (like bristol board) and I bought some cold press watercolor paper- and I'm liking it.

You have great work--I love your gallery. It's always such a pleasure to find a fellow "graphitophile"!

I like your work, and use of graphite.  I noticed you were experimenting with colored pencils to add color to your work.  There are a lot of great books out there devoted to the colored pencil.  Ann Kullberg has books devoted to colored pencil portraiture, how to build skin tones, hair, etc.  Check her out, she has some amazing tips.  Good luck and good work!

Thank you for your great comment.  I love your pencil work.  I have always loved just an old fashioned pencil and paper.  You do beautiful.

Very nice work! I understand what you mean about the graphite. Still my favorite way to create.

Fabulous depth in your b&w drawings!  They convey so much more than what I usually see in graphite work.  I know the patience involved in pencil studies, and I'm very impressed.

What beautiful drawings of the children.  I'm really impressed!  You have really captured so much of the character in them.  Wow!!!!!!

Nicely done bird Sam . Nice soft gentle colors here. I agree with your statement about loving graphite. I've been drawing for several years and never get tired of pencil. I guess it comes from having worked in a darkroom for many years and loving watching those black and whites coming up out of the developer.
