I have to say that I love Graphite. I like just about every medium out there, the richness of oils, the delicate look of a pastel, and the clarity of a well done water color. People are always asking if I paint in oil. I have and I will again but the starkness and simple lines that graphite gives just pulls me in. Like a black and white photograph when all the color is removed you get something extra and that extra is what I am trying to capture. I am trying a little more color with color pencils I am not sure if I am happy with them yet.

A good Belgian beer shared with friends. A hug from my children. Fishing on a cool day with my family.

New Jersey drivers. Rude people. People that tease me about my spelling. Bad coffee!

Fishing, Drawing, Reading, making wine and beer, Bicycle riding (I own a bicycle shop).

I love graphite too :) Have you tried the Tombow Mono Homograph pencils yet? They are wonderful! Do you have more of your art on a website or online portfolio so I can see more? I love the birds! I have a colored pencil portrait of an American Goldfinch somewhere on my hard-drive...I'll have to see if I can find it. I used the original as a prize so I don't have it anymore.

Thanks for your comment. Yes, I am branching slowly into color! I am mixing browns, grays, and black (not really a color, is it?) and really liking the blues mixed in. I'm about to move into greens.  I just like those earth colors, though I admire a lot of the bright art posted on here, I'm not to that point yet.

yes it thought it looked like an indigo bunting.  I particularly like your depiction of the wren. its true what you say about the colors of the birds.  when you see an indigo bunting in the sunlight, its breathtaking.

Very nice work. I call it painting with pencils when I'm teaching. It pulls the students in. Intrigues them, that there could be different shades in using pencils and that leads can feel diffent. It's  a very exciting medium. Keep going!!
