I am a self taught artist with a full time job in an Equine Veterinary Clinic. I've never had an art class, and the best part of this site is seeing and inquiring about techniues and effects that are new to me, and being inspired by the huge variety of art here, from the professionals, to the people like me. In case you haven't figured it out- I'm nuts about trees. I'm intrigued with finding human features in branches, bark, and old stumps. I'm crazy about detail. I can't drive or walk anywhere without noticing trees that I want to photograph and draw, so I don't think I found my niche, I think it found me.

Trees! Bare feet and worn out jeans, my family, creative people, art supply catalogs, beaches, big skies, hiking, homemade bread, snowstorms, the sun, the moon, any mountain, anywhere. LIFE.

smoking, negative people, wasps, abuse of the environment, burnt toast

art, making art, looking at art, hiking, gardening, working out, travelling, everything outdoors

Thanks for the comments on Passage 45. Yep, the rock is real and so is the wire. It's crackle paste on canvas with oriental papers collaged on top with layers of thinned acrylic paint. The rock and wire was added last. The size is 8x8. These are so much fun to do, I've got a bunch of them, now I just need to get them out there.

I am getting more comfortable with it. I need to let go a
little more but I figured that will come with time. I am working on another one
now and I am going to try and not finish it so fast. Just let it stay with me
for a while and play with the different colors out there. I keep looking at the
picture and different colors keep coming out of it so I keep laying light
layers down on top of each other to try and get that color I see. Kind of fun.
I used to do a lot of pen and inks with a little splash of color to direct the
eye but this all color is harder. That wood pecker has been waking us up every
morning he is very pretty but also a pain in the butt.

Hi,

Thanks for looking and replying....The artwork is on unryued rice paper over watercolor paper.  No need for matting. Basically simple process but time consumming.

selliot, black mats could work, definitely for online sales.

Check with your galleries, they MAY have a preference.

Good Luck !!

I have trouble knowing how to return messages.  Anyway, thanks and yes it is watercolor, never tried pen and ink.  I am using the Soutwest colors right now for two upcoming Southwestern art invitationals.  Sold the Coyote and will have to do another one. The frontal images are difficult and I pay a lot of attention to shadow, detail and lost edges.  Thankls again and keep painting.

I get excited because it never snows in Memphis.......I grew up in the snow belt along Lake Erie...I've always loved the winter....but winters in Memphis  are cold rain...So you just get chilled without the beauty of a new snow fall.  I LOVE Maine it 's my second favorite place in AMERICA after California... We honeymooned there!

Kara asked the same question about the Fall photo, it was a studio shot. I used a piece of flat black cloth to isolate the leaf and used a bare bulb with aluminum foil as a reflector to illuminate the leaf.

Your comment about the title is what I wanted peopel to think, is it Fall as in autum or is it a free fall.  I like to think of it a both.

Glad you liked it.
