I am a self taught artist with a full time job in an Equine Veterinary Clinic. I've never had an art class, and the best part of this site is seeing and inquiring about techniues and effects that are new to me, and being inspired by the huge variety of art here, from the professionals, to the people like me. In case you haven't figured it out- I'm nuts about trees. I'm intrigued with finding human features in branches, bark, and old stumps. I'm crazy about detail. I can't drive or walk anywhere without noticing trees that I want to photograph and draw, so I don't think I found my niche, I think it found me.

Trees! Bare feet and worn out jeans, my family, creative people, art supply catalogs, beaches, big skies, hiking, homemade bread, snowstorms, the sun, the moon, any mountain, anywhere. LIFE.

smoking, negative people, wasps, abuse of the environment, burnt toast

art, making art, looking at art, hiking, gardening, working out, travelling, everything outdoors

Thanks for the comment.  I find myself doing more black and whites with just a small spot of color    Not sure how that came about, but I like it.   For the "che" I had two pictures that I was trying to decide on.  I chose this one because of the watch.  LOL.. I collect watches; so when I saw Che with a submariner, the decision was made.

Talk to ya soon.  Keep splashing the paint   hehe

I cant wait to see what youve done with the photo(s). You can use either Taluse or Chris Schnepel for the credit. Youve gotten me looking for faces in every tree i see.

I enjoyed looking through your work. I really like the stuff you're doing with the trees. I love the personalities that come shining thru. Keep up the good work.   Take care, Don

Thanks for visiting my work and for your comments. Yes, the masks and mask paintings are hanging all over my house and office. Luckily my family doesn't mind. In fact, when my daughter was 3 she chose which mask represented each member of the family. She did have a problem with one of my recent paintings when she saw the early design for it. She told me "dad I had a dream about that one and it freaked me out". I told her that once I captured it on canvas it could not get to her dreams anymore...I think she bought it. It is appropriately titled "Christina's Nightmare". BTW she's 9 now.

Thanks I like the peck hole too. I am glade you could see that one. I wanted 12 birds and I got them. So I will need to try the next level of colored children pictures. That is the hardest for me. It has to be perfect.

Hey Selliot, I took the actual seed head from an echinacea and when the paint was drying but not completely dry I mushed the seed head into the paint and it left that impression...

cool eh!

thanks Selliot

Thanks Selliot......that's the beauty of abstract (and really any art form)  you interpret it as you wish... but you are right, my painting is landscape inspired....

thanks, kara

and as I write this I see another new tree

How long does it take you to do these trees, they are so detailed and intricate, and fascinating with all their nooks and crannies.  do you work from photos or memory or do you sit there with the tree as you draw it?
