I have lived in Alaska for 39 years and began watercolor painting Nov 2005. I am a self-taught artist, and have attended a few workshops by nationally recognized artists. I have met some wonderful people since I began watercolor painting. Every painting I learn something, either good OR bad.

First Friday shows, fireplaces, big fluffy snowflakes, art supply catalogs, the northern lights, getting art advice, weekend paint-outs, selling a painting...oh and CHOCOLATE !!!

Not enough time in the day to paint !!, sour milk, the last of the coffee used the day before !!, 40 below and colder !

reading, playing my guitar, watching movies, painting, gardening.

Hi Matt,  I love these last three pieces.  You seem to be simplifying and abstracting your images more in your latest work.  It gives it an ethereal quality that is very beautiful.  Carmela

Hi Mobius 49

Thank you for your kind email.  I just subcribed to scuttlebut and I'm still getting used to using this site.  From the emails on your page, I understand that you're a self taught watercolorist.   That is pretty impressive because it is a medium that is not forgiving and hard to do.  I started off doing watercolor and it truly requires careful planning.  At least in my case as my work tends to be very detailed.  Keep up the great work.

You have a real gift.  I especially like your florals and aspens.  Very cool.

I have to ask you, do you have the book "The Tao of Watercolor" by Jeanne Carbonetti? for someone who is self taught, you must have a natural gift with this medium.

Hey There!

Thanks for the compliments on "Skin Deep".  It's just one of those painting I had to paint.  Thanks!

Thanks for your encouraging comments on "Dentistree" Didn't know how many people would actually know that Quercus is the latin name for oaks.  I have a whole series of these in my head- just need the time to get them on paper.  I'm looking into giclee printing, and making tiny steps toward getting my stuff out there.  Several people have mentioned children's books, but I dont' know how to go about it.  Do you sell your art?
