Recovering medical illustrator, I got tired of working for lawyers. My family needs health insurance, so 10 hours of my day is occupied as a dedicated beurocrat (an occupation we all aspired to as kids, right?). At night in my bat cave, I work on refining my techniques in egg tempera and waterless lithography. (Waterless lithography is a non-toxic method of producing lithographs from stuff one finds at a True Value hardware store. No stones required. My lumbar vertabre just vibrate with happiness.) I'll pull out a block of wood or metal plate and just dig in on occasion as well.

Color, humor, New England, Japanese food, Japanese arts, egg tempera, a great book, Anole lizards, Lake Champlain, making people laugh, spare time and the worlds greatest stray dog at my feet.

Cigarette smoke, traffic, airports, dial-up connections, assholes, flying cockroaches, freezing rain, commuting.

Soccer coaching, martial arts, hiking, skiing & banjo. Visual art is not a hobby, like breathing is not a hobby. (Besides, when I'm very lucky, I get paid. I'm working hard at increasing my luck.)

I think you might try calling BCA and refreshing their memory or your wish to show on the corp. list.  I did get a call and will hang some work soon.  Your illustrations might not be suitable as a genre, but now that youre doing block cuts and lithos, you might resubmit, or update your listing with them.

what an interesting assortment of art in your gallery.. my favorite is the hummingbird but thats cause I am a lover of nature.. the medical stuff freaks me out even though I can appreciate the detail in your art.

M J: I very much admire everything in your gallery. You really are meticulous about detail! I agree with someone that you need to decide on a particular subject, i.e., pets, people, etc. I just took a two-day art marketing workshop and they kept saying "Think in terms of cohesiveness. Paint in a way that someone will say M J does this work. I recognize her title!" Now, at the moment, that is my big problem. Do I want to do rocks and mountains, or do I want to play with flowers? Shall I stick with one medium when I love experimenting? It's a tough decision, but if I want to become "known" and sell more, it's one I need to think about. Good luck with your show!

Hey there that is okay! As I have just moved here I am looking to meet other artists and have that part of my life back again. There are some aspects of the academic setting that I miss and mostly it is the companionsip I shared with other artists. They have all dispersed their separate ways and I am still somewhat hanging around. I am not in school yet. I am even questioning whether I want to go back yet. There is just so much to contemplate! Blargh! Those of us who are artists need to be surrounded my other artists! It is what helps keep me motaivated at least... Well, keep in touch!

Hi Marcia...

BVT is the airport code for Burlington... I thought BCA was probably Burlington City Arts, but I've never had anything to do with it...

I would seriously love to get together and see how you do what you do... Sounds like you are really busy though... aren't we all!

email me at elizabeth@elizabethmyers.net and we can exchange phone # to try to figure out a time.

Thanks,

liza

I am in Brandon VT and am very interested in the non-toxic lithography. Where is the studio in BVT? Great work BTW!

Thank you for the comments!! There was a lecture regarding waterless lithography during my tenure at Potsdam, for which I was unable to attend... Perhaps you could teach me sometime since we are so close!

Hi again,

I replied to your second comment, but not your first one. The only place "Latch" has ever been printed is on the postcard for the Art Center at Fallbrook exhibit in San Diego.  You can check that out at my website on the 'in the news' page.  Hopefully you haven't seen it elsewhere :)  The only place it has been exhibited is at a local cafe, a local art association, and at Kutztown University.

Hi Marcia,

Thanks for checking out my murals.  I use Liquitex acrylic artist color mixed with a gloss or matte medium for all of my murals now.  If you go to my website, the Noah's Ark mural is latex wall paint.  I did that one before I knew more about mural painting.  It turned out well, except the colors didn't blend nicely and I didn't need a medium.  The medium helps create transparent washes so I can blend from color to color and gradually go more opaque if needed.

Sorry to hear that the plexi didn't work out!  I use really thin stuff from Dick Blick.  It is what they sell for framing, not for drypoint.  The only tool I use is an etching needle.  The diamond points dont give me as great of a line.  I hope you will give it another try sometime!
