Hello fellow artists and art lovers,

Here's a little background information about me.

I was born and raised in the Netherlands, and moved to the United States in 1986. After a career in another field, I attended Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi where I graduated with a B.A. in Art in 1995.

I have exhibited my work since the early ‘90s in a variety of group shows and one person exhibits in the United States and Europe. One of my watercolor paintings, Gathering Storm Clouds, was published in How Did You Paint That? 100 Ways To Paint Your Favorite Subjects, vol. 1. International Artist Publishing, 2004.

Watercolor is my primary medium, occasionally combined with gouache or casein. While my choice of subject matter is not limited to one category, I am especially fascinated with scenes of city life, for which my travels form a source of inspiration. Besides Holland and the U.S., I have also lived in Italy, Germany, and – most recently – Turkey. I now live in Illinois with my husband and daughter.

In October 2007 I joined the growing ranks of daily painters, completing a small painting (almost) every day, which I post on my daily painting blog . I will post some of these small paintings here, as well.

I really like your watercolors, they depict scenes with beautiful light. Your artwork demonstrate a lot of spontaneity and yet I can see a lot of details. Love it!

Your daily paintings take my breath away...so loose, beautifully balanced, and extremely skilled. Bravo.

I love your paintings!! I have dabbled in watercolors in the recent past (I've uploaded a few) and I have a real affinity for them. I hope to become as accomplished as you someday! Please be my friend

Your watercolors are much more ambitious  than  the  usual. Refreshing to see the power of watercolor expressing a broader range of subjects.

Hi Mineke, Your cityscape paintings remind me of another favorite artist who works in watercolor, British painter David Curtis. Lovely work indeed.

Warm Regards, David

You have exceptional work in your gallery.   I am happy that you liked my Snowy Egret.  I was working a lot with leaving lost edges to involve the viewer in filling in the spaces.

Thank you for the comment about my work.  I would like to join the ranks of daily painters.  Still trying to accomplish that goal.  I get brain fried from my 40-hour a week job and so it is hard to paint afterwards but that is something I always felt would be good for me.  I will enjoy following the work you post.
