I mainly work in oil and alkyd on canvas over panel. I also do some mixed media and collage pieces. My paintings are about the hidden order of the natural world. Ideas of solitude, transformation, curiosity, fragility, and interconnectedness pervade the work.
The imagery I use consists of glyphs, semi abstracted plants, animals, and figures that inhabit a “landscape” made up of simple geometric patterns. This primitive geometry serves as a loose framework to organize, join, and simultaneously isolate the various subjects in the paintings.
Rich textures and a subtle meditative light quality are created through the process of working and reworking the surface. The tension between the quiet geometry and the active surface complexity evokes a meditative state that floats between the concrete and the temporal.
