Left CT at 17 for NYC. Fashion Institute of Technology graduate, worked in the fashion biz for 25 years. Returned to CT, married and moved to NJ, then NYC. I wrote three well-rejected novels while my husband toiled at IBM. Cancer came, we moved back to CT. I am a caregiver since 2004. My art keeps me sane, inspired, hopeful. We live on the water, the CT side of Long Island Sound. It's perfect.

Lisabeth,

My name is Kathleen.  I started painting when I was 5 becasue it was the only thing I could do and stay out of the way of my family caring for a very sick baby sister.  When I finished and showed the family what I had done they said nice things to me.  I have always considered painting time my earthly lifeline.  Your art is magnificent don't ever give up any of it just don't expect it to be right for others all of the time.  I would love to read what you would say if you described the process of working with  seaweed. You really have my imagination going since I have never in my life had opportunity to know what seaweed feels like.  Do I sound a bit crazy - I'm really serious.  You might have a serious market for your art in other parts of the country if with each art piece you have a description that tells the viewer more about it. Are they under glass? Does it have the look of collage?  Why Are the textures so varried? Art buyers are a curious lot! Oops I forgot that I was on the job. PS I set in a living room with Eric Clapton in 1972 discussing what his next album cover should look like.  I did sketches and he gave feedback, fun wonderful hippie memory! Thank you Kathleen

Hi Lisabeth,

Your collage work is outstanding!  I love your 'drawing outside the lines' attitude of overlapping onto your matts.  I'm currently working on some copper feathers with jewelry that are framed and matted, and I've overlapped the matts in much the same way.  I really like the visual it creates.

Just got back from a trip to Maine. Stayed up in the Bar Harbor area. Acadia National Park is amazing! Could have stayed there for days. Took some pictures that I hope will be good reference for some paintings. Due to lousy weather our whale watch cruise was cancelled twice. Drove around and checked out the coastal towns. Surprised to see that area is quite poor. Don't get that impression from magazines which make it out to be an area full of quaint villages. Good trip nonetheless. Stayed at a great B & B (http://www.cottagebytheseamaine.com/). The Innkeeper can cook her head off!

Currently working on a painting for one of our decorating customers. Two 30" x 30" canvases stacked to form one large image. Because of the large size and having to work on both canvases at the same time, I'm having to work standing over them bent over for hours...not good for the back, but stretches the hamstrings quite well : )

Hope you're in good spirits today. Time to go bend over my painting some more...

Yes, you are moving right along, too.  Took a look just recently.  I am writing a book called "Diary of A Mad Artist" that these experiences will go into.  It's been loads of fun to go down this memory lane.     me

Hi Lisabeth,

Thank you for your kind words regarding my work. You asked me a great question - one I've asked myself many times - as to whether I will ever try another subject. I honestly don't know. I absolutely love creating around these masks and the challenges each bring to the canvas. With my short attention span and tendency to get bored easily it is surprising even to me that I've stayed dedicated to this theme so long.

I have determined to get these paintings hung in juried shows and in galleries and have spent a lot of my free time this year attempting just that. Right now I'm an impressive 0 for 14 for the year!!! But, fear not, the more rejections I get the more pissed I get and the more resolute I become.  Sorry, I just went off on a rant. It's been building and just spewed out.

I love your seaweed and pressed flower compositions. They are beautiful...as is your writing. I read thru your blogs and feel I know you like an old friend. Keep up the great work.    -Don

Your work is very whimsical and fun! Looking at your pieces makes me happy! What is your primary medium and what kind of furniture are you creating?
