I spent most of my secondary education in the art room. Any spare time that I had I was drawing, painting, or sculpting. Not much has changed over the years. After high school I went off to college. Gave it a shot and decided it wasn't for me. So I took off for the Bering Sea to become a commercial fisherman. I fished for about five years. After a knee injury I decided I was ready for school again. This time I knew what I wanted to do. Study art. I wanted to know everything there was to know. And so began the rebirth of my art.

I work in three different mediums. I paint original abstract paintings on canvas using a brush and palette knife. I work mostly in oils, but am branching out with acrylics and mixed medias. I also create abstract figurative bronze sculptures in a female form. I use line and texture as well as simplicity to convey my ideas. The last of the mediums I like to work in is photography. While studying abroad in Italy, I learned the skills of printing in the darkroom. With education and the experience of running a local photo shop, I have acquired a taste for the darkroom and all it has to offer. I hand process images in my darkroom from time to time when I'm not in the studio painting or sculpting.

Welcome to my world of art.

Thank you for your kind comments.  I definitely think, if you were in my class, you would have been one of my favorites! Those are the one's I miss.

Hi there!  Thanks for your comments on my mobiles!  Yes, Calder is a great inspiration to me, but I do try not to imitate him.  I'm still working on finding my own title....

Wonderful stuff in your gallery!  I am particularly drawn to your bronzes.  They have such economy of expression, and yet they are full of life.  Terrific!

Just took a joyful trip through your gallery. All of the images are so full of color and depth. I'm glad you decided on a career in art. Amazing how the sea can speak to our souls.

What drew me to your page was the sculpture or sculptures, night and day.  The I realized that the other work (photos and paintings) just posted are yours too.  You seem to be truly enjoying the process!

Hi!  Thanks for the comment on my "Sugar Pills" peice.  It's actually made of Pate de Verre which is little pieces of glass fused together, it looks like sugar.  The candy pieces are actual marzipan and quite edible.  Some people do eat them which I think is just Awesome.  I love your paintings and simply must look at them all when I'm not at work!  Later!

Hi Lady.

I actually gasped a little when I saw the image on the left. Fabulous!

I opened each of your latest - one by one -- which is no small thing when you have a dial up connection! Lovely -- all of them. Photographs? Painting of photographs?

(ps) I live thirty minutes outside of Fairbanks in a little cabin in the woods and thanks for checking out my website : )

Thanks for stopping by my page. I did notice you have a thing for blues in your gallery. I figured you either lived by the sea or spent a lot of time there and I notice in your bio above you did spend time at sea so it certainly makes sense. I do like texture but haven't gone to far into exploring it yet. I'll put it on my list of to do's though! Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff later!

I love your work and especially your sculpture, which seems different
in approach.  My high school photography students love
the darkroom too.  When they drop that first sheet into a tray of
developer and watch the image come, they are forever enamored with the
process.  Your paintings make me think of my friend George Dunbar who
reminds me about his work, "My paintings contain whatever a viewer sees
in them."

Hi Stephanie,

I can only imagine that living out at Sea showed you what is truly important in life!

thank you for your really nice compliments! I am really curious about the photo you took of the woman with the umbrella?  Is it at a wedding, at a street market...Even in this red and orange...you included that aqua blue....Love it!

Hey thank you for your great comments and observations.  the one photo on the river (ghostly)  I also have in color and it is so different black and white vs color.....

I think that would make for an incredible day to see the sunrise and then the sunset..I lived in Berkeley for many years at the top of the hills and looked out to the Golden Gate and the Ocean beyond...I got to see many gorgeous sunsets, but it's funny few sunrises except for the color display on the western sky...because the sun was coming up on the otherside of the hills.....

I'll have to check out your blog.. do you write about your experiences at sea?
