You know, I don't, but now that you mentioned it, I should! I have hundreds of stories I could share. I'll have to remember that when I feel like writing with nothing to say.

The Bay area is so beautiful! My husband and I spent our honeymoon in San Francisco. Absolutely loved it and would go back in a heartbeat. =)

I love the texture and palette of your work. Very earthy.

And I did have the opportunity to see the most beautiful sunsets and sunrises while out at sea. My favorite year was the summer of 1995. I went to work and caught the sunset and then midshift worked outside while the sun was coming up.

Well, it's still beautiful. funny that you got excited about a dusting of snow. It has been snowing non-stop in Maine since Thanksgiving- it is 3-4 feet deep in the woods. I have taken a lot of pictures because we haven't had a winter like this in over a decade. However, it's March, and the ground is nowhere in sight!  I'm ready for spring!

Kara, the photo titled “Fall” was a studio shot.  I used a piece of flat black cloth to isolate the leaf and used a bare bulb with aluminum foil as a reflector to illuminate the leaf.  Glad you liked it.

Kara, I am humbled by your comments on my photograph, thank you, and I like your photo of the snow. I usually travel through Memphis once or twice a month and fortunately for me this is a month that I did not have to go to Memphis. Is any of your work hanging in the Memphis airport?

Just to keep you in the loop, it is 10 degrees here today and the snow is pretty good for cross country skiing, a little crusty, but still good and fast on the down hill side.

Thanks for your comments on my site.  With the horses, the first layers are washes of watercolor or diluted colored ink- then I work over that with colored pencils- ink doesn't lift off though, so sometimes I cover areas with white gouache to lighten then, then I work over that. The manes are done with a crow quill pen and permanent black ink- because then I can easily vary the width of the line- and hope it doesn't spill a drop while I'm scratching!  I really like colored inks- I only did black and white for about 20 years- working in colors is new for me. You can't wipe off mistakes with water though, so sometimes I have to rethink things if I get too much ink on the brush.  Thanks for such a great explanation of your technique- now  I understand the effect better.
