An artist living and working in New England, Gregory paints landscapes using vivid and extraordinary colors. He describes his work as expressionist, after the movement that arose around the time of World War One. He has been influenced by their subjugation of realism in favor of the use of form and color to portray stronger feeling, imaginary scenes or symbols their work.

Gregory also sculpts, and this discipline has influenced his approach to the simplification of forms in his painting.

hellooooo

i want to hear more about vsc sometime, although your comments about the great amounts of uninterrupted time to work says alot.  plus the work you produced speaks for itself. 14 days of school left, then the studio is mine, all mine!!

Hey Greg, didn't you say you posted 4 new works?  Am I missing them?  And what's the youtube video address that you mentioned (about the Vt. studio)?

05/15/2008 11:01:22
Hey Greg, your mailbox is full, you chatty cathy you! Thanks for the comments on the Cedars and Pines and YES YES PLEASE give me your constructive feedback, including "this does NOT work and here's why."  You are right about the piece--I have trouble seeing values correctly. Thanks again for your input

national juried shows only help if you get in  but if you get in, its a notch that does count for something as long as you let people know you got in

The gold star thing is wayyyyyyyyy outta control! I just wrote a few of my friends, and hit 800 on my counter thingy, and a second star appeared.

I think you do need to get out and about with your art, and maybe you can get into whatever big city you have in Vermont, like Brattleboro, or isnt White River Junction big and closer to you? I think its wonderful you are having a solo show, and it all builds up in a resume and it all does matter. Do you have a resume? are you a member of any local art associations? do you submit work to juried shows? do you read the listings in the back of Art Calendar magazine, and submit work to national shows? All this hard work ... is suppose to be good..

between painting new works for your solo show, preparing for the outdoor art festival with a tent and booth setup, teaching classe in your studio... you remind me of me!

WE ARE INSANE and I mean that in the best possible way!

Hi Greg, the only unframed works I bring to the shows are prints, so to answer your question all my watercolors will be framed but may not all be hanging depending on space. I have always had to invest a big chunk of money into framing and although I dont cut matts or build frames, I do change around the paintings that go into my frames when I think its time. Watercolor paintings just dont look the same when they are not matted and under glass. I think the best way to get a sense of how people setup and show work is by seeing their booths and even asking questions. I know every medium is different and I always envy the oil and acrylic painters that use wrap around canvases and dont even need to buy frames!

I remember that the painting at the auction had trees. I think it was about 2 feet wide(?) It definitely looked like one of your paintings.  I don't coach for Nordic (but they do keep trying to pinch my players,) though my daughter played for them about 8 years ago.  Trevor Squirrel was the director and it was right after Far Post broke off, so it was a pretty miserable experience.  Nordic trains in Essex, so that must be quite a dedicated boy you have there to commute from Hartland.

I'm the middle school girls coach and coach the U-14, U-13 and U-12 boy's city club team with Bob Day, the Burlington HS coach.  The U-13 is the first team we've had go D1, but this is their first year, so I think we are going to get shellacked.

I'll look for you at Art's Alive.  Maybe I should wear a carnation or something.

Hi Greg!
I do plan to be at the Arts Alive. I'll look forward to meeting you. Were you at the auction last month? I saw your work but didn't know what you looked like.  Also, I went online to try and find the waterlss litho class you mentioned but couldn't find anything at their website. Is it still going on?  (It's soccer season and I'm coaching two teams, so I'm not getting on my computer too much these days.  Sorry for the delay in responding.
