Since I can remember, I have called myself an artist. At the ripe age of 38, I began to learn to paint in oils. I love it. I also sculpt and use other media (acrylics, etc. I have taken a few workshops and studied at a atelier for some time.

Life became recently HUGE and I stepped away from my art for awhile to concentrate on the big issues I faced..I am now back with gusto! Ready to learn and ready to create...

My studio is calling. I plan to create more portraits, and figurative art as well as branching into the semi-abstract. I will post more pictures as I go...

Peace, Painting, Artists, really green grass, painting in orange tones, reading, movies, politics (liberal),freedom of speech, how art can unify people, children's laughter, passion, how dogs can love unconditionally, running, marathons, honesty, positive attitudes, "sucking the marrow out of life"

People who have no opinions
War
insincerity
People who are constantly negative
Those who refuse to step "outside the box"

Website design, online retail work, reading art books, dogs, working out, running, marathons, my pets: Henry a sweeter than honey Basset Hound and Annie the darling Pug who must run everything.

hi fearless! i'm responding to your kind words about max. thanks so much. sometimes, i find it works if i just leave the wash as background. do you tone your surfaces first and if so what do you use. i use water soluable oil for the tone and am wondering if that's a good idea.

Barbara,

Think you for visiting my site and for your kind words about "Anticipation".  I , myself, and a horrible dancer...but I appreciate the artistry of those who are.  Dance, to me, is thelanguage of the human figure.  When it's done well, it's poetry.  So, when I paint figuratively, dance seems to be such a natural subject.

BTW--"Lift my Eyes to the Hills" is fabulous.  The expressive color and brushwork are wonderful.

Best regards,

Steve

Thanks for your comments on "But It's a Dry Heat". The colors of the desert around here forced me to get them into a piece. As I painted I felt summer pushing itself thru and then came the name...   -Don

Thanks Friend,

Thank you for the compliments about my watercolors. I also want to say how much I love the figure study of Jean Mannheim. Nicely done. I would never discourage you from doing watercolor, but your oils are great. Just keep keeping on.

BTW - I don't know how to add or request "friends" to my site. Can't find help on the topic. Can you help?
