I am a retired commercial Tuna/Crab boat captain. I have happily spent more time on the water than I have on land. I have painted the ocean all of my adult life and now that I have retired from a life at sea, I am painting full time out of my studio here in Montana. I also am an Official U.S. Coast Guard Artist. As well, I am president of the International Society of Marine Artists. I have been president for the last five years and enjoy working with our members from all over the world. If any of you would like more information about our society please visit our web site http://www.ismpart.com

The ocean, schooners, tallships, good art, good food, soft music, happy people and blue sky.

Grumpy people, loud music, rude language.

Tallships, ship modeling and wood working.

I enjoyed seeing your work. Nice to meet you and know you are not far away! Let me know if you're interested in attending the Sandpoint Plein Air Paintout this spring and I'll try to get you on the list for an invitation.

BTW, I'm finding that it is difficult to read comments and your profile on your page because of the medium color backgroud. If no one else has trouble, then just blame it on my old eyes and the computer!

Thank you for commenting on my work! I am glad you liked it. Your work is beautiful, I can really tell that you know your subject well. My favorite piece is Rafting With Friends.

Your attention to detail and accuracy makes for good paintings. The emotions you portray resonate with the viewer. Your personal connection with the sea is clearly evident. Good job. jbradley

Hi David,

Thanks for your comments on my work!  I have just recently begun painting the ocean/and beach scenes.  I always have loved the ocean, it just took a while for me to realize that painting it would be fun.  I have thought about trying oils after I am done the art expo in March (they sell for more than watercolors).  I tried them in colleg, but I have always just LOVED paper.  I could spend hours in the paper section of an art store, it thrills me.  I guess we are all different and find our own groove!  Anyway, keep up the great work!

David,

Thanks for the comment. I stood in the cold north wind for a couple hours New Years eve painting that one.

Your work is excellent! I really like the piece called "Rafting With Friends". Very nice!

Montana sounds like a place that could calm the nerves a bit. One of these days my wife and I are going to make it up there.

Love your pictures. do you ever work in watercolor, or acrylic? Montana is a little far from the ocean tho, looks like cape cod, or Door County.
