I am a retired commercial Tuna/Crab boat captain. I have happily spent more time on the water than I have on land. I have painted the ocean all of my adult life and now that I have retired from a life at sea, I am painting full time out of my studio here in Montana. I also am an Official U.S. Coast Guard Artist. As well, I am president of the International Society of Marine Artists. I have been president for the last five years and enjoy working with our members from all over the world. If any of you would like more information about our society please visit our web site http://www.ismpart.com

The ocean, schooners, tallships, good art, good food, soft music, happy people and blue sky.

Grumpy people, loud music, rude language.

Tallships, ship modeling and wood working.

I have to share with you, I sold my first painting yesterday.  I am so excited to have a piece of me beginning out on a journey on its own.  It is just so cool.  Thanks for being so supportive and kind to me as I get started.

Thanks for noticing the new work. Nope, the move has yet to happen (April 7).  I still have to work just as I still have to breathe.  How are you lately?  Anything new?   me

Greetings from Port Williams, Sequim, Wash. I see you have set ashore at the port of Libby. My most memorable trip through Libby was in 1975, on the top of a Burlington Northern box car. It was a beautiful day, and it seemed like I was riding on the top of the world! I'm off work, my left wrist is about totaled out. I have been working on boats the last 5 years in Port Townsend. Mostly fancy stainless steel, and aluminum work.  My interest in art seems to stay ashore though! your work is very good, and it sounds like you got a good thing going.....Craig

Good evening. I am hoping that you might have some advice for a beginning artist.  I, too, love to paint water, primarily the sea.  I have only been drawing/painting for a couple years.  I am enrolled in several classes (drawing, perception, etc).  But have absolutely no clue on the basics of even how to enter a piece into a show.  Can you recommend a website or a book as a primer for the beginning artist.  Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your time.

I appreciate you looking and the kind comment about the landscape painting. It was kind of fun to paint.

I look forward to seeing more of your excellent work.
